Guess the Word Cloud

This week, student will learn about the Mystery Word Cloud of the Month and how to enter a comment to win a prize! Can you guess this word cloud's theme? Leave your answer by clicking on 'comment' at the end of this post. Make sure you include your first name and last name initial (remember, we never put our full names on the internet!) and teacher's name.
Example:
My guess is school.
Jack C.  Mrs. Smith

At the end of the month I will randomly select a winner! Good luck and thanks for participating!

Week of October 1-5

Saturday, September 29th, Mrs. Warkentien, Ms. Hagensee, and I attended the Anderson's Young Adult book conference. I had the pleasure of meeting Raina Telgemeier, the author of Smile, and get a picture with her.  I have a 4th grader, Katie A., who is patiently waiting for me to process this new book and check it out to her. :) Katie, I took this picture for you! ;)  I also purchased two of Raina's books and she autographed them for our IMC.  I look forward to sharing them with the students!

Weekly Recap: Last week students completed a PBIS survey about the beginning of the year.

This week: We will be in the computer lab. 3rd graders will practice log on and log off. They also will learn to open and save a Word document. I will review with 4th and 5th grade how to retrieve a saved document. We will print our Word documents we worked on 2 weeks ago. We also will learn about the Mystery Word Cloud of the Month! ;)

Thanks for stopping by!

Weekly Recap :: Week of 9/17/12-9/21/12

This week our students met with me in the computer lab for orientation. 3rd graders learned their user names and passwords. 4th and 5th graders were reminded of their user names and passwords. They also were able to create a Word document and show me "everything they knew" about Word. We practiced saving their document on our network.  All three grade levels had a brief discussion about passwords, why we have them in life, and why they're meant to be private. I really encouraged the students to take my advice and keep them private.

We also started a new center in the IMC. It is called the Library Scrabble Center. There will be different "themes" throughout the year that the students will have to come up with words that go along with the theme. They are to work together to think of words and spell them correctly. They are encouraged to use the dictionaries at that center to help with spelling. My favorite board is posted below. They even used my last name! A big thanks to Mrs. Lodge's Library and The Library Centered School blogs that have given me the inspiration and guidance to start these centers! The kids love them!

Some new "items" also arrived this week. First, two new special pillows for our window seat were purchased by my very own mom! Thanks MOM! :) She also purchased 7 I Spy books for our library too! My mom is very generous and I appreciate her supporting my new classroom. The students thank you too! We also received an order we had placed for books and audio books. I'm excited to introduce Playaway to our IMC collection. Playaway is an audio book that is portable! It comes with ear buds, pre-loaded and ready to use content, and a battery. We are going to add a book to the circulation bag in case a student wants to follow along while they listen.

New special pillows from Target!

4 new Playaway audio books and a CD

Centers

This week we started two centers in the IMC. Students were able to visit the puzzle center or the ABC book center. Having these centers allows for more productive use of book checkout time. Students who aren't checking out books have something to work on.
So far my classes have done a really nice job at them. I look forward to adding new centers in the future.

Today, some of Mrs. Sulima's students did a nice job working at the centers. They were actively engaged which makes me a happy teacher!

Week of September 10-12

I postponed computer lab orientation due to MAP testing this past week and this upcoming week. Students worked on a scavenger hunt in the IMC. They had to find 15 reading bugs which were located in important places in the library. We will finish up our scavenger hunt this week. Students will also learn about some new centers we will have opened for them to visit when they're done checking out books!
