Last IMC class of the year!

Last class of the year...as in calendar year! Ha! Traditionally in the IMC, this week's classes hear a holiday story. Mrs. Csorba is excited to share the audio version of The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Van Allsburg just so happened to be our author spotlight for December too!

Checkouts last week and this week had this cozy fire to read next too! Don't these two Panthers look cute reading by the fire?!?

Wishing all my readers a wonderful winter break and Happy Holidays from the Csorba Family. We are excited to celebrate little Miss Emma's first Christmas as a family of 4. She is already 9 months old!

Book Hunt with Aurasma App

To reinforce the Zaption book tour from last week, students went on a book hunt. Using location in the library, call numbers, team work, and the Aurasma app on the iPad, students searched for books in the different sections of the library. 3rd graders had 4 books to hunt for. 4th and 5th graders had 6 books to hunt for. It was awesome to see the excitement, engagement and team work among the students. The hard work and time spent to develop this book hunt was WELL WORTH IT! Many students rated this week's lesson with a smiley face again. :)

The students sat in the IMC Cafe, heard the "chef's specials" which was an iMovie about the nominees. Then they had to taste test 3 books and were encouraged to look at as many that they could put their hands on.

Week of September 22nd

We will spend the week of September 22nd in our computer lab again. 3rd graders will learn their user names and passwords to log onto our computers. We will have a discussion about why we have user names and passwords and the importance of keeping that information private.
4th and 5th graders will log on to the computers and into their Google accounts. I will be teaching them how to make word clouds at tagul.com and linking this to their Google accounts.
Recap from last week:
1. We have a new display that we will change monthly. We are starting a "author spotlight" display. Our Panther readers can read a short bio about our selected author and check out books by that author. Our first author is Andrew Clements.

We stared a new center last week called book recommendations. Students can sit down and write some information about a favorite book that they would recommend to someone and share why they liked it. Here are a few great recommendations!
