30 Book Challenge

This upcoming week, students will hear about a new book challenge the IMC is promoting! Based on the work of Donalyn Miller's book, The Book Whisperer... Aimed to promote voracious readers, expose students to a variety of genres and literary elements, and foster a love of reading!

Students interested can take a 30 book challenge sheet from the IMC. They have from now until the beginning of May to complete. All students that complete the challenge will earn a Shake Break with Mr. Pagel.

*I understand that some students are working on reading 20 Bluestem/Caudill nominees as well. This will also be accepted if completed! :)

Welcome Back, Panthers!

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Mrs. Warkentien and I are so happy to see everyone and hear what you've been reading! We hope you had a great summer!  The few classes that we will see this week will enjoy a story, Do Unto Otters or What Does It Mean to Be Kind? followed by an activity!
Starting the week of August 27th, students will hear about IMC expectations. These expectations review how we are respectful, responsible and safe in the library as well as book care expectations.
The following weeks we will learn about Fab Lab expectations and technology usage expectations!

For those that participated in the summer reading program, please stop in the IMC and turn in your sheets for Mrs. Csorba to review and earn your paws and coupons!

We are excited to see everyone!

Welcome Back and Author visit

Welcome back Panthers! We are so happy to have you return from what we hope was a wonderful summer! We have loved all our visitors and hearing about your summer and what you've been reading!

We have a new theme in the library! Emojis and kindness!!!! Hope you like it. My helpers, Jack and Emma, worked hard to set up the library with me before school began! :)

It was so fun kicking off our year with author Amy Logan. She wrote A Girl with a Cape series. It is about spreading kindness. We have all 4 of her books in the library! Be sure to check them out!

IMC Cafe this week

Welcome to the IMC Cafe! My name is Mrs. Csorba and I'll be your sever this week. Our chef has cooked up 20 delicious titles for you to taste test! These books are all being nominated for the Bluestem award. What is the Bluestem award? "Big Bluestem, the Illinois state prairie grass, symbolizes the entire Bluestem Award and the variety of titles on the Master List each year.  The deep roots of this dominant native grass of the tall grass prairie indicate the older titles with lasting appeal.  New yearly growth relates to the newer titles chosen.  Its changing colors are a reflection of the variety of literatures, and the three seed spikes represent the three grades of students for whom the program is intended: 3rd, 4th, and 5th." -ISLMA

Students must read at least 4 of these titles to vote for their favorite by end of February.

Here is the link to the list. We have multiple copies of all 20 titles. There is a special prize for students that read all 20! :)

What's happening in the IMC?

3rd graders are hearing about Chromebooks expectations and reviewing them with a game called Kahoot!
4th and 5th are looking at our database called NoveList. It is an online booking finding source. They can either use it to find the next book they want to read but they'll have to check our OPAC to make sure we have it in the IMC. If not students will learn how to fill out a google form for book recommendations for our Panther Pick display.

IMC Orientation

This week students heard about the IMC expectations and how to be respectful, responsible and safe. We also reviewed book care and circulation! A note went home about this. Have you seen it? :)
4th and 5th graders played a Kahoot to review book care and circulation. It was a lot of fun. Ask them about it!  Below is a link to book care rules with Skippy Jon Jones! Enjoy!

Welcome Back!

We've been busy getting our IMC ready for our Panthers to check out all our fabulous materials! The students were welcomed into the IMC this week by hearing a cute story called, Do Unto Otters by Laurie Kelley. It is a book about manners and the golden rule "Do Unto Otters as you would want Otters to do unto you!" We made otter bookmarks as well. I enjoyed hearing about your child's summer and the books they have read too! Next week we will have orientation and a note will come home with your child about this!
